#ThursdayThoughts – YOU NEED TO STOP BUYING BIGGER CLOTHES

When you’re on your journey of losing weight, the best feeling in the world is when your clothes become looser and you can fit into a size smaller than you could last week. The feeling is amazing. Total gratification comes when you can walk into your favorite department store, look at a shirt by its size, even though it’s size smaller than what you’re use to wearing, you’re fully confident that it will fit because you legitimately wear that size now.

I use to have a field day walking into store and just looking a large or medium shirt then buying it without having to try it on. Granted, some sizes can run smaller depending on the brand so you do have to watch out for that. I was a guy that was accustomed to 4-5xl t-shirts. Do you know how hard it was to find shirts that size? Beggers can’t be choosers in that case. It was frustrating. Being fat is expensive. I’m going to write a post on that to elaborate more. When you’re bigger, everything runs more money. It’s more fabric for the size you are so you’re going to have to pay more. It’s an ugly truth, but truth none the less.




You’re at a comfortable size in clothing. You know without a shadow of a doubt that your new size fits you hands down. You’ve worked so hard to get to where you are. Majority of the clothes you wear are form fitting to accentuate your new physique/figure. After a while you do get to a point to where you’re like, I don’t want to wear form fitting clothes every day. I want to be comfortable. That’s completely understandable! We can only show the world our new body so much that it becomes redundant. You have every right to be proud of yourself don’t get me wrong.

With that in mind, the next time you go buy a shirt or some jeans, you may buy them a size bigger, just for wiggle room or comfortability. This is why I stated YOU NEED TO STOP BUYING BIGGER CLOTHES. This right here is the start to some bad habits. I’m speaking from personal experience. The more wiggle room you have in your clothes, the more wiggle room you’ll have mentally to slack on your diet and your workout that earned you your new physique. Complacency sets in and before you know it, that XL shirt you bought just as a “lazy shirt”, is now form fitting! That large shirt that you worked so hard to get in, is now too snug!

That’s the worst case scenario. Just one of those little tricks you have to be aware of when you come into your new body after losing weight. As hard as you worked to get your new body, you’re going to have to work that much harder to maintain it. I’ve fallen victim to this more times than I like to admit. I’ve purchased bigger clothes just so I wouldn’t wear tight muscle shirts all the time. In turn, since I know the shirt was bigger, I didn’t have to worry about being so serious about fitness lifestyle when I did put that shirt on. It gave me the green light to let go. I’m not saying you have to have the pedal to the metal all the time, but don’t go to cruise control for too long either.

Yes I believe in rest days, relaxation, and vacation. If you don’t watch it, cheat meals will turn into cheat days, weeks, and months. Here’s the good thing about it all. You have the blueprint to get back in shape. You have evidence. You have pictures of yourself when you were at that smaller size. Don’t fear, if you did it before, you can do it again. It’s just going to take that same mental focus to get back to it. My weight fluctuates and when it gets to a point where I’m not comfortable with, I diet back down. It gives me something to shoot for once my weight gets to the point where I don’t like it. This weight loss journey, you have to keep yourself motivated. BE YOUR OWN MOTIVATION!
