#ThursdayThoughts – EVERYBODY WANTS A PIECE OF JESUS
EVERYBODY WANTS A PIECE OF JESUS
NO ONE WANTS A LOSER
“Everybody wants a piece of Jesus.” It’s one of my favorite lines (it’s actually paraphrased) from the movie HE GOT GAME. For those who haven’t seen it, Jesus Shuttlesworth is a highly sought out high school basketball player. Everyone was trying to get his attention to get something out of him from college recruits, women, to his own father. Hence the line, “Everybody wants a piece of Jesus.”
What am I getting at by that statement? Deep down, everybody wants greatness. People either want to be great or associate themselves with greatness. People gravitated to Jesus Shuttlesworth because of his greatness. You can take any sports team in this situation. A team that was known for losing turns itself around then starts winning more games during the season. Before they were on their winning streak, no one would hardly cover them at all. You could ask most people and they wouldn’t be caught in daylight rooting for them. Once they got on their winning streak, you started to see more media coverage on that team. You’ll see more people buying their merchandise to let others know this is the team they are rooting for. This signifies to others, this team is winning and I am supporting them because I am a winner. I am associating myself with greatness. Regardless if that team wins the championship or not, for that moment in time while they were winning, more people associated themselves with them.
No one wants a loser. No one wants to fail. Being number 1 is the ultimate goal in whatever we do. One of my favorite lines in the movie Talladega Nights is, “If you’re not first, you’re last.” It sounds harsh but it’s true. Who remembers second place from the standpoint of a goal to shoot for? No one. I never want to shoot for second place. I shoot to be the best. The possibility for me to succeed is just as great as it is to fail. The difference between success and failure is the will power to want one more than the other.
When it comes to maintaining this diet and exercise lifestyle it’s a constant grind. We are all subjected to the same temptations daily. Life hits you and you have to roll with the punches. Adjustments have to be made. These adjustments are to ensure you stay on top of your game. You have a goal you’re shooting for, you try everything in your power to stick to it. If you get knocked down, you get back up and go at it again. Hopefully you’ll learn to not go down by the same mistake. This is a learning process. It’ll make you stronger for when the next time this situation comes up.
Deep down you really don’t want to fail. You want to win. You want to be the best. For you to be the best you have to change your mindset to do whatever it is (legally) to achieve that. Surround yourself with positive people who want to see you succeed, and who you want to see succeed. Once you change your mindset then things start working for you the way you envisioned them. You’ll see people gravitate to you more than ever. This is the law of attraction at hand here. People will become more inquisitive.
This could be a good thing or bad thing. Some may try to steal your secrets, some may genuinely want help. You have to discern which is which. This was tough for me when I lost weight because so many people would ask me for help. I was stand-offish because that’s the kind of person I am. I didn’t understand the reasoning behind the sudden interest in what I was doing. Then I realized I have done something great that could be beneficial to everyone. I’ve gained a lot from the ones I have helped. The point that I am making is people are attracted to greatness if you’re doing something great. It will just happen so go ahead and accept it. With this situation, there will be something in it for you if your heart is right. It could be material, financial, or it could just be that feel good feeling. Either way it’s a plus. Be great in everything you do!
