When Is Enough Ever Enough? My Sanity Is Being Tested

My water bill jumped from $52 to $92 with no warning and no extra usage. This post isn’t just about the bill—it’s about pressure, sanity, and why the gym became my escape.

The Question Behind the Statement

Enough is enough, or enough is never enough—both are true. It’s a statement and a question.

In today’s day and age, in the society I now live in—blessed to see 43 years of life—more is required of us all.

Even when you feel what you’ve given is enough.

Even when you feel what you’ve done is enough. Society teaches us, it’s not.

So is enough ever really enough?

The Rising Cost of Living

I remember when I moved into where I’m currently living back in 2019. The monthly water bill was about $52. Not too bad, I guess.

Fast forward six years later—$90. That’s what I’ve been racking up for the past two years.

No extra body in the house. Same water consumption. Same usage. But somehow, an extra $40?

Why?

Because more is required—from that company, from that system—to deliver water to my home.

Because of “marketing,” “inflation,” or whatever excuse they give. And you would’ve thought $42, $45—even $50—was enough to be paying for water. But it’s not.

What I thought I had enough for—I didn’t. Now I need more.

More money to pay for what I’ve already been paying for.

Doing More Just to Stay Afloat

So what have I been doing to get the money to pay for that?

Clearly, it’s not enough. I need to do more.

This insatiable hunger for non-satisfaction is driving me insane. I believe it’s driving you insane.

And when I say insane, I mean confused, frustrated, disoriented. It feels like it doesn’t make sense.

It’s that moment when you just reach your goal… and there’s already another one waiting.

You finally have the financial ability to purchase a service, and then that service changes—requiring even more from you.

And the craziest part? Sometimes, the company or service isn’t even doing anything differently to justify asking for more.

That’s the wild part.

Our value system is changing. Yesterday’s price is not today’s price.

All of this creates stress—added stress.

And I need an outlet.

The gym is my outlet. Working out is my outlet. It’s how I relieve the stress and frustration from the changes in the world, and in my life.

Because I can’t be a kid anymore.

A Look Back at Simpler Times

I don’t want to grow up. I’m a Toys “R” Us kid. Going to Toys “R” Us when I was about eight years old… it was everything.

It was the kingdom of kingdoms. The heaven of all heavens—for toys and video games.

It wasn’t like Target. It wasn’t like Kmart. It wasn’t like Venture.

This was Toys “R” Us.

And only the “uppity” kids—or the richer kids—were actually able to buy toys and video games from there.

Or so I thought, when I was younger. Even then, I understood the class system. The “haves” and the “have-mores.”

Today’s Reality: Have More, Do More

And that’s what’s required of us today.

To have more is to do more.

Because we are required to do more.

Because more is demanded from us just to maintain some form of sanity.

But there are times when my sanity is tested. Especially when I see a $92 water bill… for using relatively the same amount of water. Give or take a few gallons—from six years ago.

The logic is insane.

It’s crazy how things can go up that much, and nothing else really changes.

But because it’s not enough, we’re told the change is necessary.

The Need for a Safe Space

So to deal with this test of my sanity, I have to find a safe space—so I don’t go insane.

So I don’t lose it. And if I do happen to lose it, I need a safe spot.

A safe haven. Something to get my mind off this madness.

I need to let this rage out.

I need to let it out peacefully.

Crazy, right? Letting rage out peacefully?

The Gym Is My Therapy

But there is a way.

It’s the gym.

It’s my workout.

It’s working out.

To maintain your sanity—you’ve got to work out. You’ve got to keep your mind sharp.

Because more is required of you. And to meet that demand, you’ve got to think of more innovative, creative ways to evolve, become better, and adapt.

Because if you don’t evolve, you die.
