ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME?!

Are you listening to me?  Can you hear me talking to you?  Are you paying attention?  These are the question my body asks me.  I’ve gotten to the point in my life where I have to start paying attention to what my body is telling me.  It is very important that I stay in tuned with my body and what it’s telling me.  When I try to go past certain points where I know where I’ve been, I’ve learned to just listen.  I remove the pride and do what my body tells me.

Paying attention to what my body tells me has helped me prevent injury in a lot of cases.  When I don’t listen is when I get injured.  Case and point.  A few weeks ago I was lifting a barbell over my head with too much weight.  Before I picked it up something (my body) was telling me not to do it and ask for help.  Pride got in the way and DING, the barbell hit me on the head when I tried to lift it up.  I have a scar on the top of my scalp as a daily reminder.  I get angry at myself every time I see it.

Listen to your body.  Take time out listen to what your body is saying to you.  Some days you need more water.  Some days you need less sugar (refined, we all do).  If you need rest, then take it.  I am hard headed when it comes to that.  I am doing so much, like most people.  At times, I rest/sleep 4-5 hours a night.  I know it’s not the healthiest things to do.  I do know that when you get a full nights sleep, consistently, thats when your body repairs and heals itself.  Lack of sleep can cause false hunger and bad moods.

Know when enough is enough.  I’m all about having a fun and safe workout.  We all have goals that we want to reach.  We all are pushing ourselves towards the inevitable great person we are put on this beautiful planet to be.  In order to achieve that we have to push ourselves beyond our comfort level.  There are times when you have to know when enough is enough.  Personally, depending on my intake, my workouts can last an 90- 120 mins.  Somedays I get hungry in the middle of them and thats my cue to stop.  Why?  I’ve worked out while I was starving and it only leads to me being light headed, then I give less effort.  I risk injuring myself because my mind isn’t focused on what it needs to be focused on.  Though years of experience, I know when to say when.

This thought process can also be used on your intake.  Know when enough is enough.  If you’ve eaten and you’re full, don’t keep going back to the fridge or stove for more and more.  Give your body time to digest.  Drink more water with your meal to fill you up.  Don’t too much and don’t eat too less.  Listen to your body.  Pay attention to what’s going on.  Document down what your intake is.  Have fun on this journey of yours.  Be the best you that you can be.
