LOOK HOW FAR YOU HAVE COME
We all have goals. Some are met. Some are still in progress. Goals are great to have. They keep your eyes on the prize. In the midst of reaching your goals there will come a time when doubt sets in. There will come a time when fear more than anything itself starts to show its ugly head. You may even succumb to such emotion. You may think about giving up. You may question, what is this all for. All this plays on the psyche.
When this happens, you have to reflect on how far you have come. Just starting your fitness journey takes courage in itself. To tell yourself that you are ready to make a change. After you tell yourself that, you then have to execute that thought.
Progress is made. Slow progress is progress none the less. When slow progress occurs you become stagnant. Stagnant becomes frustration. Frustration turns into doubt. Doubt leads to questioning worth of your progress.
I’ve doubted myself several times during my fitness journey. I look in the mirror and tell myself, “I can do better. I can do better.” I get tough on myself and not realize that I have made some progress. My mind is so focused on the end game. If I start praising myself too much on my progress I get complacent. That’s me though.
Over time I’ve learned to appreciate that progress. Yes, like I just wrote, that same progress can lead to me becoming complacent. I had to change my perception to appreciate the progress that I’ve made so far. I look back and learn from what I just went through. I appreciate it. I’ve learned to cherish it. Yes there’s more work to be done but I appreciate the work that I have done. Take a moment for yourself. Give yourself a pat on the back for making it this far. Wipe the sweat off, take a swig of water then go back for more until the mission is complete. Trust the process. Appreciate your progress.
