CHASING GHOSTS
CHASING GHOSTS
What do you look like today? Is it better, worse or the same from six months ago. Are you happy with your current results? Do you see room for improvement? These are all rhetorical questions that you have to answer yourself. We are all striving to become better people every day. If we looked better six months ago than we do right now, the effort to re-create that body is like chasing a ghost. If you look at yourself now and wanted to improve, envision it! It’s about being in the right frame of mind. Chase that ghost of the future.
We’ve all had situations to where you take some time off from working out and following your diet (healthy). You look up and you see that you may have slacked off. So you make a declaration as say IM GONNA GET REFOCUSED AND GET MY LIFE TOGETHER. In your head you keep saying to yourself, “I’m going to get back to where I was. I’m going to get back to where I was.” That right there is chasing a ghost from your past. Yes that (ghost) person is you but when you got to that ultimate goal then, your mentality, willpower and your goals were totally different than what they are at this present moment. If you keep chasing that moment of the past you won’t be able to concentrate on creating something new today, for tomorrow.
Don’t get caught up in the Al Bundy syndrome. “I scored four touchdowns in a high school game”, mentality. As great as an a accomplishment as that was, here’s the real question What are you doing to create something new to better yourself.
It’s all about coming back stronger in all areas of your life. Don’t feel stressed out that you may not look the same as you were back then. That could be a good thing and a bad thing. For me I don’t necessarily want to look like I did five years ago. I may want to look like what I looked like two years ago at this time but that’s just me. I have personal goals that I look forward to accomplishing every day. One thing that does not work for me, which I’ve tried, is chasing that ghost of the past to re-create those moments. They simply do not work.
The past can be a great reminder of where you came from and accomplishments that you have achieved. Do not look at the past as a barometer of where you want to be tomorrow. Let’s go ahead and start chasing that ghost of the future. The one that you can envision. You’re stronger, better, and wiser in all areas of your life. Let this be the new goal. Let that person in the past go. Let’s focus on building a better you for tomorrow.
