WORKING OUT WITH MY TRAINING MASK

Training Mask during cardio, 100 reps with weights, yes I am taking you with me on today’s workout.  Fun stuff right?  It is a task waking up and getting myself ready to workout.  It’s all mental.  You have to know that when you’re done, you’re going to feel better than if you wouldn’t have worked out.  Working out first thing in the morning works out better for me than at night.  I feel rushed at night.  My mind just isn’t into it like it would normally be in the day time.

This is a break down of the workout you will see in the video.

I’m always asked, “WHAT IS THAT MASK YOU’RE WEARING AND WHAT DOES IT DO?”

ELEVATION TRAINING MASK

Technically it’s called an ELEVATION TRAINING MASK.  I call it the TRAINING MASK.  What does it do?  Just like the box says.  It simulates high altitude training.  To sum it up it’s like breathing in thin air.  I’ve never visited anywhere where the air is thin.  People say Colorado is like that but I’ve never been.  Having less air means you’ll have to work harder to breathe.  No you will not suffocate.  You will challenge yourself for each breath.  It will increase your endurance over time by strengthening your core, diaphragm, and lungs.  It also reduces recovery time.  When you aren’t working out in the mask and you work out, you will notice you’re not gasping for air.  The amount of time it takes you to catch your breath reduces.  This is what I mean by “recovery time”.   The three white circular shapes are called valves.  You can interchange these to adjust your elevation level.  It comes with an instruction manual where it will tell you how to adjust the elevation.   #ElevationArmy

I’ve had mine since early 2014.  At the time I was running a lot.  Something that I’ve grown to love.  The idea came when I was running outside during a time when it was cold.  I had my mouth covered to protect my face from the frigid air.  It was some type of dri fit covering that covered my nose, mouth and neck.  Even though I could barely breathe through it, it made me breathe deeper and concentrate on breathing.  I began to think if someone made a product that allowed this but a little more breathing room.  A few weeks later I came across the Training Mask.  You could imagine how excited I was.  I felt like my mere thoughts brought this product into existence.  CREATE REALITY!  After a couple of weeks of researching I purchased it.   At the time it was about $90 at Dicks Sporting Goods.  The employee was putting the first shipment on the shelves and told me I was the first person to purchase one.  I felt this mask was my calling lol.

I first took it out on a 3 mile run and almost passed out.  I had it set at the lowest elevation level of 3,000 feet (3,ooo feet above sea level).  I could hardly breathe!  It felt like I was running in a steam room or something.  I wasn’t use to the mask and I tried to go all in my first time out.  I did have to lift it off my face a few times to get some fresh air though.   I’m no punk so I kept pushing.  You live and you learn.  Over time I began to learn how to control my breathing.  Utilizing the air that was given to me to its maximum benefit.

My first time wearing it at the gym I got a lot of weird stares.  It is a great convo starter.  The first thing that people compared it to was Bane.  It’s crazy how people walked up to me and began to ask me about the mask.  I’m full fledge into my workout, headphones in, and really getting my focus on and I get stopped to answer questions about the mask.  I thought it was funny.  I tried lifting weights with it but I do not care for my air to be restricted during that time.  I need all the air I can when I am lifting weights.  I mainly use the mask for cardio.

You can purchase different skins to go with the mask.  The one that I have on is called Dark Invader.  I believe they wanted the Darth Vader.  I think copyright/trademark protection hindered that.  If you’re looking to ramp up your workouts I would recommend it.  As with anything, please do your research before purchasing.  I have provided a link below where you can visit their official website.
